Following our successful garage sale, we had just at two hours to get our house in some semblance of an order (in other words, move all the stuff we had tossed from the garage sale into the kitchen in order to be able to walk through it), bathe our kids, bathe ourselves, fix dinner and be ready for the baby sitters to arrive. We had a party to go to! It was slightly chaotic for those two hours, but by the time we got to the party, we were really looking forward to a child-free night out with our friends. This party was to celebrate our friend (and associate pastor) turning 30.
Earlier in the week, we had "celebrated" by decorating his office. He's a huge fan of The Office, so we decorated as they would - with a few streamers and some balloons with about 3 puffs of air in them. Just enough to say "we remembered", but not enough to say "we're care that much". He's also a huge fan of reading "old dead guys" (as he calls them) such as Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon and Augustine. So, we had random quotes from these theological geniuses, like the one pictured below. We had too much fun doing this.
Saturday, we gathered to celebrate with him (what a thought). It was a great night of laughter and general fellowship. We had such a wonderful time. It was fun to jump from conversation to conversation and try to keep up with all of them. The girls were upstairs chatting while the boys decended to the basement for a few rounds of pool. Without the kids, we had some wonderful, interruption free time with adults!! Thanks, Michael - for having a birthday and giving us an excuse to celebrate!
