First Fall Camping Part 1

Last weekend, we got to go on our first fall camping trip of the fall. Trinity had a school holiday on Friday, so we were heading up on Thursday to enjoy a long weekend away. Four other families would be joining us on Friday. We were so excited about it. We love the chance to get away and relax for awhile.

Usually, we don't make a big deal about any upcoming events, but the kids found out and were just as excited about it as we were. Apparently, a little too excited. When I picked up Kalyn from school on Thursday, her teacher requested that the next time we plan such an outing, we not tell Kalyn - apparently she was jumping around, dancing and singing all day, "I'm going caaaaamping. I have a new fiiiiiiiiiiiiishing pole." I was glad to see the excitement, but I felt sorry for her teachers.

Shortly after Trinity got home from school, we loaded everyone up in the truck and headed off to Bald Ridge Creek on Lake Lanier. I have to admit that I was a tad nervous. I had made reservations for a total of 9 other families (between two weekends), but I had never been there. I knew that if I had chosen unwisely, we were set for two not-so-fun weekends. That was not to be, though. Within a very short period, we knew that this campground would be one of our new favorite places.

Here are just some of our pictures taken before everyone else showed up on Friday afternoon.

The view from our campsite (how lovely)

Kalyn and Xander enjoying a game of chase on the playground

Kalyn's in a big angel-making stage. She's made grass-angels, carpet-angels and here, sand-angels.

What's a better way to spend our first night camping than roasting marshmallows?

Those pesky graham crackers really get in the way of the yummy chocolate and marshmallows

Our week had be a bit crazy, so we took Xander's gifts so he could open them while we were camping. Most of his gifts were found in the $1 of Target (on 1/2-price too). He's also showing of his new style of "smile"

Craig got a little boat from one of his clients and took the kids out on some boat rides. Xander was first out.

Then the girls got their trip

Xander watches the girls as they sail away

Our walk around the campground found three swings - we were really glad there were three and there weren't any other kids around

We also found a little trail that took us right along the lake

What camping trip isn't complete without some family fishing?

The kids are getting better and better on their bikes - well, the girls are improving. We're still waiting for Xander to gain a bit more coordination.

Another fun thing about camping is finding really cool tree roots for the kids to climb on

The next post will include pictures of the fun once the four other families arrived. We loved the time with our friends, but we also loved having a good day with just the five of us!

You were either no where close to home, or this was not this weekend! I about froze to death at Carson's soccer game.
